FWIC 2022 is the collaborative programs between the RMAF, Inisiatif Hati Sdn Bhd (IHSB) and International Test Pilot School (ITPS) Canada, to produce a qualified FWI in the RMAF.
As for the record, the last time the RMAF had produced FWI in this kind of collaboration program was in 2008, where five (5) FWI were successfully completed the course. The program was then continued in 2012. Unfortunately, the candidates were only able to finish up until the ground phase due to unforeseen circumstances. Now after 14 years, the RMAF has finally succeeded in producing six (6) FWI to continue the FWI legacy in the RMAF through this collaboration program. Additionally, 22 participants from various transport, helicopter and Air Defence Squadrons also have successfully completed the FWI ground phase.
The program’s main objective is to expand and test the course participants’ skills, knowledge, and attitude to the maximum level in term of tactical development, instructional technique, basic fighter pilot core competency and also leadership skills. This program aims to produce a qualified FWI who can develop their analytical skills and critical thinking, and subsequently be able to advise senior leadership concerning policy and tactical decisions as it relates to the fighter force. Furthermore, the core competencies that will be emphasised in this program are knowledgeable, humble and accountable.
For more than five (5) months, they have been exposed to the extensive training needs that include various phases of flight starting from basic tactical flight operations such as Basic Fighter Manoeuvre (BFM), Air Combat Manoeuvre (ACM) and managing complex missions such as Large Force Employment (LFE) which involves various fighter, transport and helicopter fleet in the RMAF including the Air Defence assets. Besides, these FWI also have been exposed to instructional methodology in tactical environment so that they can effectively enhance the RMAF tactical training especially towards the CAP 55 goals.
